When Your Tests Came Back Normal: What Else Might Your Body be Trying to Tell You?
After a lifetime of trauma, my mind could no longer contain the emotions that had been suppressed for decades, and physical symptoms began manifesting in my body. What began as subtle shifts in my health quickly increased in severity, and before long I was barely able to get through the day. My fatigue was extreme, I endured painful abdominal cramps, headaches, brain fog, weight gain, and persistent low mood.
I saw multiple different doctors at walk-in clinics and in the emergency room, underwent thorough examinations and rigorous testing including bloodwork, ultrasounds, and CT scans—and still no diagnosis could be provided for my illness. Like many, I didn’t realize that trauma, suppressed emotions, chronic stress, and fear can show up in the body in the form of physical symptoms or disease. This is called psycho (mind) somatic (body) illness, and this is what happened to me.
As I continued to experience physical symptoms in my body that no doctor could explain, I felt like I was on a never ending merry-go-round ride with no end in sight.
There’s a feeling that comes when you hear the words you’ve heard many times before: Everything looks normal.
